Saguaro National Park located near Tucson, Arizona, is named for its mighty Saguaro Cactus. But those who dare to look a little closer, will find a plethora of cactus, desert plants and animals that are popping with color in the Spring. 

The spring flowering season in this area of the Sonoran Desert is from mid February to mid June with a peak from mid March to late April depending on rainfall and temperatures during the growing season.

Trying to time a photo like this where the Ocotillos are bursting with bright orange blooms and the yellow flowers of the Brittlebush are  covering the ground like a yellow blanket can be tricky.

Saguaro National Park is broken up in two sections. Luckily, I it is a short drive for me to the West Loop, where this image was captured on a day in late March shortly after some rain. 

The sounds of the birds chirping, the Little Striped Whiptail Lizards scurrying and the desert cottontail rabbits dashing through the landscape create a symphony of not only colors, but sounds of life in the Spring. 

Some years, drought has caused these plants to not bloom as full or as bright. 

I was very happy to be able to see a bloom like this one.
